The proposed changes, including a stone-faced ground floor, projecting gable extension, enlarged fenestration, and formal entrance with stone walls and heavy timber gates, would urbanise and domesticate the approved fall back permission which resulted from a barn conversion and harm the rural character of the site and its open countryside setting. This conflicts with Sedgemoor Local Plan Policies D2 and D19, Policy WED5 of the Wedmore Neighbourhood Plan (requiring non-suburban materials and respect for open rural character), and the NPPF (Achieving Well-Designed Places), which seek contextually appropriate design and avoidance of urbanising features in the countryside.
