The application site is located outside of any defined settlement boundary and is located within the countryside for the purpose of planning policy, where development is in appropriately controlled. The application site fails to meet the locational requirements of policies CO2 and D9 as it does not amount to infill development within a small village or hamlet that has a clearly defined nucleus of existing dwellings and is not well related to the settlement boundary either physically or functionally. The erection of a dwelling in such a location would therefore amount unsustainable development in the countryside, contrary policies S2, CO1, CO2 and D9 of Sedgemoor Local Plan 2011-2032.
