1
The proposed trailer sign would be located adjacent to the M5 motorway, within an open agricultural field and on land raised above the adjoining highway. By virtue of its large size, scale and prominent location the proposed trailer sign will have a significantly detrimental impact on the amenity value of the surrounding area and will not be in keeping with the rural character of the area. The proposal would therefore be contrary to government guidance in the form of the National Planning Policy Framework and The Town and Country Planning (Control of Advertisement) (England) Regulations 2007 (as amended) and Policy D2 of the Sedgemoor Local Plan 2011- 2032.
2
The proposed trailer sign would by reason of its design, display of a significant amount of text and information and positioning in relation to the motorway junction would likely create an unnecessary distraction for road users at a time when vehicles are manoeuvring to exit the motorway to the detriment of the safety of motorists. As such the proposal is contrary to government guidance in the form of the National Planning Policy Framework and The Town and Country Planning (Control of Advertisement) (England) Regulations 2007 (as amended) and policy D14 Sedgemoor Local Plan.
