By virtue of its design and scale the proposed roof extension will project significantly above that of the existing southern section of the building, resulting in a unacceptable visual impact on the character of the building and the street scene. The extended roof will diminish the traditional rural character of the pub through the loss of the 'M' plan roof and the proposal would be detrimental to the character of the locality. The extension works will result in an imbalance to the building and therefore the proposed works will not reflect the traditional characteristics of the site and the public house itself, to the detriment of its appearance and therefore will not comply with Policy D2 of the Core Strategy.
